Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry

In my essay I will write about the theme of discrimination. Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry is a book about discrimination/racism.It follows the story of Cassie and her 3 brothers Christopher-John,Stacy and Little man. The book was based in 1930. One system that was unfair was share cropping because the landowner gave the people a house for them to work all day with no food or money. The book describes how tough black people’s lives were and also describe how they felt at that time.

One example of discrimination is at the Barnett Store when the white woman pushed in front of Cassie and Stacy but Mr Barnett allowed it. The reason he allowed that it’s because they were black and he was white and so was the the woman. Cassie gets angry when Mr Barnett serves another customer instead of her when she was in front. The white lady pushed through like they didn’t exist. Black people were treated like second class citizens and this was normal which was why Mr Barnett allows it.

At school what happened was that Cassie, Stacy and Little man were given poor copies of books and Little man answered back to Miz Crocker and then little man was whipped hard lots and lots of times but Cassie tried to stop Miz Crocker, but she couldn’t otherwise she would be expelled from the school. Discrimination is shown here when little mans gets whipped by Miz Crocker. The good books were reserved for the white people and it was fresh but the books that black people were torn up.

Cassie bumped into Lillian Jean by accident and Lillian Jean did not take this lightly she took this very seriously. Lillian Jean commanded Cassie to get of the side walk because Lillian Jean did not like her because she was black. “Well, apoligize she ordered”.Big Ma came before it got out of hand and she forced Cassie to apologize. Cassie was stubborn she had nothing else to say so she just had to, even though she didn’t want to do it but Big Ma was there so she said ‘Sorry’. White people think they are more precious. Lillian Jean had more civil rights and and black people had a few.

Mr Mo+rrison is a black workman on the rail roads and our next victim of discrimination. Mr Morrison is the person that protects the family and was hired by Cassie’s father. Stacy was suppose to be responsible instead of Mr Morrison and they don’t like him because they think that he will replace their father.

Stacy,Little man and Cassie were walking through a snake wiggly road but they suddenly heard something and it was the bus full of white people and they were going really  fast like crazy people.Little man says to Big ma ”Big Ma! look at my clothes they done it again!”  They wanted to splash them so they did Little man took it serious and couldn’t take it but he held his anger in instead of snapping out. Stacy and Cassie stopped him as well. Cassie and her 3 brothers get splashed for laughter by a white people’s school bus. The reason little man did not react is cause that if he did he will be killed and noone can do anything about it.

The white people killed a man called the Bauer they burned him to death because he was black.Every night there is always white people coming after black people to kill them because they are black. Night men only think for themselves.

Discrimination is when a white/black person is being racist. Discrimination is shown in this story by Mr Barnett saying nigger to Cassie and Stacy because they asked why the white lady got served before they did even though she just got there.
